The Rotary Club of Fluvanna County was officially chartered by Rotary International on June 8, 2006, and became the 59th Rotary Club in Rotary District 7600. This large Rotary District extends across Virginia from Fluvanna County in the west eastward to the Tidewater area. The club’s membership consists of local businessmen and women as well as retired residents of the Lake Monticello community and the surrounding area. As a newly chartered Rotary Club our membership is constantly seeking ways to have a positive impact on Fluvanna County and the surrounding area. We have assisted with the county’s Habitat for Humanity house, provided assistance to the local Food Bank, funded the purchase of Christmas presents for needy families, and donated to a variety of humanitarian organizations in support of our community. A major club initiative is assisting the Fluvanna County High School Driver Education Program. To that end we have provided updated training videos and have begun a semiannual Parent –Student Driver Safety Night at the high school. The club established a club non profit 501(c) (3) Foundation late in 2007. In early 2008 an endowment was established within the Foundation structure in honor of Debby Altschull, the wife of a Fluvanna Rotarian who tragically passed away. The focus of the endowment is the children of Fluvanna County. Our club initially met at the Lake Monticello Golf Course Eagles Nest restaurant, but moved its meeting to the Ashlawn Grille in the Lake Monticello Community Clubhouse in early November, 2006. The club meets at 7:30 a.m. on Wednesdays for breakfast.
